Garden tour tickets on sale now
Everyone from private home owners with a green thumb to creative artists are welcoming locals and tourists to the inaugural Garden & Art Tour running Sunday, July 22 along the Red River North, with tickets on sale now.
The tour is the brainchild of Red River North Tourism (RRNT) and includes nine stops along a mapped-out route in Selkirk, St. Andrews and St. Clements, says RRNT President Lois Wales.
“Visitors will be able to tour beautiful gardens and enjoy amazing artwork found among the flowers of private yards and public sites along the Red River North. There are nine stops that can be leisurely done in four to five hours and include two civic sites, four private homes, two federal heritage sites and a market garden,” Wales says.
“There will be about 25 regional artists stationed along the way tucked in among the garden beds, flowers, and trees; in garden sheds and outbuildings that have been turned into pop-up art galleries. And the art is for sale so visitors can take a piece of the tour home with them. They’ll also get lots of great gardening ideas from our inspiring local gardeners on that day,” Wales added.
The $30 ticket includes a detailed map that allows people to come and go as they wish stopping for as long as they want at each site, taking garden photos and meeting artists.
“The tour has the support of many of the same volunteers who created Homes for the Holidays, so we are building on their great success to provide a summer alternative to the winter tour that is going into its fourth year of opening up properties decked out for Christmas,” Wales says.
Garden & Art Tour supporters include lead sponsor Cambrian Credit Union which has tickets for sale in four of their branches, including Selkirk, and in Winnipeg at 100-855 Regent Ave. W, 2136 McPhillips St and 1366 Henderson Hwy.
Tickets are also available at Harrys’ Foods in St. Andrews, Gaynor Family Regional Library and online at redrivernorthtourism.com. There are limited tickets for sale in this year’s pilot project and people are urged to get them soon before they sell out.
The project is also supported by the City of Selkirk, the RM of St. Clements and the RM of St. Andrews; and The PRHouse which created all of the marketing tools.
